I'm lost in the moment ...

Hi, my name is Patricia and I'm from Lisbon, Portugal. I'm an avid reader of books and stories that get me crawling out of my skin and transform me. My favorite genres are Romance, Erotica, Paranormal Romance and Fantasy, Mysteries and Thrillers, and getting into the so called Young Adult, New Adult and Steam Punk. I'm always looking for new authors, new genres and my TBR list goes on and on ... so many books, so little time. I review, discuss, and ultimately I get wrapped up in my fantasy world. Nice to be here.

Coming Out Today ....

Lying in Wait - Liz Nugent

Released today in hardback cover, "Lying in Wait" is going to conquer american readers who are always up for a good dark thriller.

Born in Ireland, Liz Nugent is not a newcomer, she has already released two previous books and I'm shure that she has gained the respect of many readers that became instant fans.

Nothing better than a rainy day, a hot cup of tea and a book for a companion.

From Cecilia Scot comes "HIM"

"I slept with a man I'd known for less than an hour.It wouldn't have been the first time nor the last."

If your looking for something different, something to take you into a roller coaster ride, a passion without limits, than this is it, this is your book.

Written in the first person, this story sinks beneath your skin, an intimate tale to hear in front of the fireplace on a cold winter night.

After having slept with a stranger, our lady becomes attached to HIM and from there forward her life is controlled by HIM.

Full of passion and very steamy sex, her days are filled with a never ending yearning for his touch and presence but as they walk through the stages of control and new experiences the sorrow of being at his mercy starts to beat up a heart that held promise of a true relationship.

Will HIM control her and keep her ?

Ms. Scott wrote a fabulous book taking us on a journey to hell and back.

With beautiful quotes that accompanies us through out the book, we get a hot detailed relationship of a woman on the verge of going over the cliff, boarding the depths of obsession and grief and heartache for a man that reigns in sex and control.

"So what was a nice woman like myself doing having sex with a stranger ?"

For those that understand that sometimes we find in life what we're not looking for but get it anyway, "HIM" is an example of what not to take up even if it feels so good ....

If you created more than one Giveaway (well done!) you can get a code for each of your Giveaway book. That’s how you can popularize your Giveaways, motivate others to read and show off books to win.

You can also add your Giveaway Widget to your BookLikes webpage by using HTML customization (Settings/Blog -> Customize -> Edit HTML). If you don’t feel comfy with HTML, just wait several days and we’ll add easy customization tool to add widgets to your BookLikes blog.

Now about the second feature. Some of you have probably noticed while logging into BookLikes a pop up with title Book Blog Directory - Pick Genres You Read & Review (if yo haven't seen it yet, you'll see that soon with next log in). It's a short form that will be very helpful while creating new Explore and blogs discovery site - BookLikes book blog directory.

Please take a sec and fill it up - it’s fast and easy - just check literary genres that you’re reading and writing about on your blog on BookLikes and we’ll use your answers to create new updated super-duper Explore page :-) With this and other developments we’ll implement, you’ll be able to look through BookLikes blogs based on literary genres and your reading preferences and easily find and start following those that fit your reading taste. We hope to reveal new look of Explore page in several weeks.

Yo can pick several categories but remember to fill the form only with relevant genres as it will influence how your blog will be categorized. Choose wisely as we can verify some blogs. If you review a wide range of books, choose General fiction plus one or two additional categories.

Share the news and encourage your Followers to do the same. Thanks to it Explore page will be diversified, friendly and busy :-)

If you haven't noticed the pop up with blog categories or would like to change your blog categories choice, do it in Settings/Blog -> Blog Categories.

Remember that you can also tag your posts. While writing a review, text, posting a photo, link or video add thematic tags and make others find your blog and your writings via Tag Search Box (on Dashboard in right column).

Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Reblogged from Living for the Books:
The 5th Wave - Rick Yancey

This review is also on Living for the Books

To be completely honest when I first heard about this book and all the hype I actually thought I think I'll skip this one. Not because I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to the hype but because I tend to stay away from alien books. I can count on my hand how many alien books I've read and I guess I just picked the wrong ones because I was missing out on a seriously awesome book.

What makes this book stand out are the characters, not the fact that it is about an alien invasion. I'm sure there are plenty of alien books out there. There are plenty of survival books other there too but I can't remember the last time I read one like this.

The book is told from several points of view but the main character is Cassie. There were times when I couldn't stand her but most of the time her point of view was very enjoyable. She's a strong girl that is just trying to survive in a world. There's nothing special about her, she's just a teenager girl that found a way to keep living even when the odds are against her. I loved how determined she was to keep her promise to her little brother and that she still had a sense of humor while everyone she knew was being killed by aliens.

The point of view switched around frequently but I didn't mind that. I wasn't a fan of Sammy's point of view but I didn't hate it. I loved the part when it was from the Silencer's point of view. And I liked Cassie and Ben's point of views equally. Both POVs had were action packed and some parts were slower than others but overall they were both great.

The romance in the book was the only thing that bugged me. It moved way too fast for my taste but I liked how Cassie pointed this out. I have no idea why Evan fell in love with Cassie and how Cassie fell in love with Evan. At first Evan was a bit of a creeper. He finds Cassie and helps her get better but while she's getting better he bathes her when she's unconscious. He also like to lurk. Instead of acting like a normal person, he'll stand outside Cassie's door and wait. Despite that, somehow Cassie ends up liking him. I warmed up to Evan eventually but it took awhile. It was very obvious what was going on with him right from the beginning but I wasn't too annoyed by the lack of surprise.

I ended up loving this book more than I thought I would, The 5th Wave is now one of my favorite books of 2013. Everyone should definitely read this book.

Can't wait to read....

Reblogged from Realms of an Open Mind:

A new killer is stalking the streets of London’s East End. Though newspapers have dubbed him ‘the Torso Killer’, this murderer’s work is overshadowed by the hysteria surrounding Jack the Ripper’s Whitechapel crimes.

The victims are women too, but their dismembered bodies, wrapped in rags and tied up with string, are pulled out of the Thames – and the heads are missing. The murderer likes to keep them.

Mayhem is a masterwork of narrative suspense: a supernatural thriller set in a shadowy, gaslit London, where monsters stalk the cobbled streets and hide in plain sight.

What Books Have Been Trending – April-June 2013

Reblogged from Angels With Attitude Book Reviews:

As we head into the middle of the year we are now going to start seeing all the summer (winter here) blockbusters being released. It feels like there is a new book being talked about every week nowadays but once again I thought I would have my fun and look at some of the books I’ve noticed trending for the past three months. Like always this is not accurate, this is judgement plus culling most books so we can cover more genres.

April

Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to find words for flavours and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts? Can constipation kill you? Did it kill Elvis? In Gulp we meet scientists who tackle the questions no one else thinks of–or has the courage to ask.

A guy walks into a bar car and…From here the story could take many turns. When this guy is David Sedaris, the possibilities are endless, but the result is always the same: he will both delight you with twists of humour and intelligence and leave you deeply moved. Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls is David Sedaris humourous collection of essays that cover a range of topics.

Ursula Todd is born in a snowstorm in England in 1910 but dies before she can take her first breath. During that same snowstorm she was born again and lives to tell the tale; again and again. Life after Life tells the story of Ursula’s lives, as with each new life she makes small changes that send her on a completely different path.

Summer, Massachusetts. An old Silver Wraith with a frightening history. A story about one serial killer and his lingering, unfinished business. Anyone could be next. NOS4R2 is an old-fashioned horror novel in the best sense. Claustrophobic, gripping and terrifying, this is a story that will have you on the edge of the seat while you read, and leaving the lights on while you sleep.

Nora Eldridge, a 37-year-old elementary school teacher in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is on the verge of disappearing. Having abandoned her desire to be an artist, she has become the “woman upstairs,” a reliable friend and tidy neighbour always on the fringe of others’ achievements. The Woman Upstairs is a masterly told story of America today, of being a woman and of the exhilarations of love.

May

A new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations. In And the Mountains Echoed, we follow its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe—from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos—the story expands gradually outward, becoming more emotionally complex and powerful with each turning page.

One last Sookie Stackhouse adventure; Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte’s Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire’s girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived earthquakes, revolutions and attempts on her life. Dead Ever After is the final chapter in this much loved series.

In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centred on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces . . . Dante’s Inferno. From the bestselling thriller author that brought us The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demon’s comes the forth book in the Robert Langdon series, Inferno.

The 1st Wave took out half a million people.
The 2nd Wave put that number to shame.
The 3rd Wave lasted a little longer, twelve weeks… four billion dead.
In the 4th Wave, you can’t trust that people are still people.
And The 5th Wave? No one knows. But it’s coming.

Rose Baker seals men’s fates. With a few strokes of the keys that sit before her, she can send a person away for life in prison. She is The Other Typist, an office girl in a New York City Police Department precinct. Confessions are her job. It is 1923, and while she may hear every detail about shootings, knifings, and murders, as soon as she leaves the interrogation room she is once again the weaker sex, best suited for filing and making coffee.

June

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat. Entwined with You is the third book in Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series; Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds.

College student Devin Jones took the summer job at Joyland hoping to forget the girl who broke his heart. But he wound up facing something far more terrible: the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and dark truths about life—and what comes after—that would change his world forever.

In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such mega successes: sexy, irresistible characters. romantic and mythological intrigue, and relentless action and suspense.

A groundbreaking work from a master, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is told with a rare understanding of all that makes us human, and shows the power of stories to reveal and shelter us from the darkness inside and out. It is a stirring, terrifying, and elegiac fable as delicate as a butterfly’s wing and as menacing as a knife in the dark.

The National Book Award-winning author of Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann comes an astonishing new novel, TransAtlantic. Through a series of narratives that span 150 years and two continents comes this magnificent and somewhat ambitious novel. From the first TransAtlantic flight from Newfoundland to the west of Ireland to the American senator crossing the ocean in search for lasting peace in Ireland, this is part fiction part historical literary achievement.

There are some very obvious choices here but that seems to be the books that I have seen being talked about the most. I do cut out a lot of books if I feel like there are too many in the same genre, I want to leave room for books in other genres that people might be interested in. I’ve read a few of these books and have a lot on my TBR already. I would love to hear what you think I’ve missed and what you expect to trend in the next three months.

NetGalley - "Three Stages of Love: Attraction" by T.C. Anthony

Attraction - T.C. Anthony

I started out reading this trilogy through NetGalley and got hold of the second book. I haven't read the first book but gave a try anyway.
From page one I didn't put it down until I was finished.

This relationship isn't all about passion, sex, lust or love. It's much more than that, it touch's other aspects of the human behavior while it's confronted with grief and loss, betrayal and the overwhelming feelings of loneliness.

Evangeline is a woman filled with grief, a dark pain that surrounds her soul and the only way she can fight the feeling of emptiness is through pain. Shocking to the core, the author had the ability of writing the scenes through perfection and really the fact that people might try this to forget their pain is beyond me, I really felt for this woman, good job M. Anthony.

As the pieces are picked up along the way and Alexander try's to move forward with Evangeline I realized this books were much different from the other erotica series that I've been reading. The story evolves with aspects that we are faced in real life, shallow people, betrayal, selfishness, love, understanding and forgiveness. They are all too many words for a book that speaks it's own mind and is unique in this genre.

Alexander is also a character that I grew fond of. Not being an expert in all the Dominant/Submissive lifestyle, he tries to understand he's partner's needs, the heart as well as the mind, in bed, in their own house and in between the relationships that come along the social life outside each other.

What marks this couple is the great love that they feel for each other and the will to be together after all.

To those that want to start reading this trilogy I recommend that they start with the first book. I've already got it and read it, loved it and the review will be coming shortly.

Another great mind to join the others that I've already met through NetGalley and I'm hoping the author will give me a chance to read the final book. I can't wait...

Perfect summer read for romance lovers

Reblogged from Bookworm Dreams:
Wait for You - J. Lynn

J. Lynn is a pseudonym for Jennifer L. Armentrout, author of two very popular ya paranormal series Lux and Covenant. As is often case with popular young adult books, I haven't read them yet but I heard a lot of praise from my friends. So, when opportunity to read and review Wait for You presented itself, I jumped to it.

After reading Wait for You I must say I do not regret my decision. Ok, maybe I regret it a little bit since this book kept me awake long after midnight. I could not put it down until I finished it. The romance was so intense and I devoured it with baited breath. So be warned, make sure to have a lot of free time because when you start reading, because Wait for You will become glued to your fingers.

Wait for You may not bring anything new to the new adult contemporary romance market. You have probably read similar stories before about heroine who goes to college, has scars from past but some handsome playboy and a group of friends help her to overcome them. But Wait for You held my attention, it's a very well written romance novel.

One of my favorite aspect of the book was relationship between Cam and Avery. It was intense, it has slow-building, it has a lot of snark. They kept pushing and teasing each other and I enjoyed every single wordplay. I do not like relationship that miraculously happen, I liked it that they had to work at it.

Quote Cameron Avery from Wait for You by J. Lynn

If you are looking for a perfect summer read and you love new adult contemporary romance novels set in college, I warmly recommend Wait for You. You'll get swoon-worthy hero and that happy buzz from real friendship. On the hot sun the pages are just going to melt away...

Disclaimer: I was given a free eBook by the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for a honest review.

Book Review: New England Rocks by Christina Courtenay

Reblogged from Wee Shubba's World:
New England Rocks - Christina Courtenay

New England was such a quick fun read. I devoured it in about 3 hours. I was in a weird reading mood and needed something light and this was perfect. Rain I instantly liked! She is far from perfect and trouble seems to just follow her around but she is smart and one of those girls who doesn't really care about her appearance. Even though she is pretty she doesn't know that she is. Jesse he is hot and Funny. Oh and he is in a rock band!!! It is torn when it comes to his feelings for Rain because he has a girlfriend but he can't help fall for Rain. Now I did like the two main characters but I found them rather predictable. And with Jesse I would have liked his story to be a bit more in depth just to get inside his head a bit more.

Ignite

Book 1 in the Ignite series by Erica Crouch.
Published: June 11, 2013

Her veins froze with the ice of Hell long ago, but there are still days when she questions her decision to follow her twin brother, Azael, to Hell. He’s been perfectly comfortable since he’s fallen, so why hasn’t Pen been able to completely let go of the light?

It becomes even harder for Pen to ignore how out of place she feels amongst the demons when she and Azael come across the resurrected archangel Michael. Michael’s return means trouble, and not only for Pen. His presence tips the balance of the worlds and the future begins to disappear. Fates erase and are left unwritten as Hell prepares for war on Heaven.

Pen separates from her brother so she can keep an eye on the former archangel as Azael works to spread a demonic virus. On her own, she finds herself growing closer to Michael and questioning her complacency in Hell. For the first time in her life, she is not controlled by fate and is unwilling to fulfill her destiny as a demon. Challenging Hell will pit her against her brother, who grows darker and more powerful each passing day.  Follow the White Rabbit

Book 1 in the Beautiful Madness series by Kellie Sheridan.
Published: May 21, 2013

For centuries, Wonderland thrived as the domain of beautiful bedlam and unapologetic madness. It was a place like no other. All it took was one girl slipping in through the cracks of the universe to start chaos spiraling toward order. In the 150 years since Alice’s visit, the realm has become tainted—almost normal. Rabbits in waistcoats and playing card minions are little more than creatures of myth, and Wonderland is literally falling to pieces.

For Gwen, Rose, and Lucky, Wonderland is home, and yet they know little of its former glory. When the Alice prophecy resurfaces, they’ll have one chance to use Wonderland’s own legends to bring a little mayhem back into their reality. For she who controls Alice controls the fate of Wonderland.
